Here’s a gem-like crochet Dragon Egg with a cute surprise in it! Yes as dragon eggs do, this one holds an adorable baby dragon amigurumi! It’s tucked inside, waiting to come out into the world.
I made a 3 Dragon Egg set (inspired in part by Khalessi, the mother of Dragons). This is a free companion crochet pattern to my Dragon Amigurumi pattern I released earlier on my blog.
The design of the crochet Dragon Egg is made to mimic dragon scales around the shell. The scales imbue it with a sense of mystery, danger, and fantasy. I work the rounds up first, but do every other round in the back loop only. And then I go back to the loops again to add the Dragon Scale stitches around.
You can actually have 2 looks to your dragon egg. Here’s the first look with the scales pointing upward.
You can also point the scales downward, and the stitches look more defined here. You can choose which look you like for the egg!
The crochet dragon egg is strong enough to stand on its own, but it has a hole at the bottom for you to insert your Baby Dragon amigurumi.
Let’s see our green baby dragon breaking free out of his shell!
For the egg colors, I chose jeweled color tones. The yarn I used was Red Heart with Love Metallic. It’s hard to capture it in the photos, but they have a sparkle and shimmer to them that is quite magical for the eggs!
I like to make the color of the eggs match to the Dragon color itself, but really, you can just let your imagination fly! A Rainbow Egg would be pretty as well, now that I think about it!
I hope you’ll enjoy this fun set and I’d love to see how your magical Dragon Eggs turn out! Be sure to tag me on my Instagram or Facebook!
